Cecilia’s new publication: Assembling the Past, Performing the Nation
A chapter by Cecilia Dinardi, titled ‘Assembling the Past, Performing the Nation: The Argentine Bicentenary and Regaining of Public Space in the Aftermath of the 2001 Crisis’, has just appeared in the book Argentina since the 2001 Crisis: Recovering the Past, Reclaiming the Future, edited by Cara Levey, Daniel Ozarow & Christopher Wylde and published by Palgrave Macmillan (2014).
Cecilia’s chapter explores the interplay between culture, politics and urban space through a detailed examination of the politics of national commemorations, the official management of the past, and the construction of public meanings on Argentina’s bicentenary, linked to national identity, following the 2001-02 crises.
In light of the on-going financial conflict and political tension with the US ‘vulture’ hedge funds, this book provides a key to understanding Argentina’s recent past and complicated present, with contributions on state and civil society relations, political economy and cultural representations.
