Casey to co-convene preconference in Chicago
For the third year in a row, Dr Casey Brienza is co-convening a Media Sociology Preconference ahead of the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association. This year it will be held at the downtown Chicago campus of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management on 21 August 2015, with Tressie McMillan Cottom (Virginia Commonwealth University, starting fall 2015) delivering the opening keynote lecture. The full call for papers is available here. Deadline for submission is 31 March 2015.
Last year’s preconference, held at the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business at Mills College in Oakland, California, was very well-attended. 68 paper submissions were received by the deadline, with scholars hailing not just from the United States and Canada but also China, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United Kingdom. In total, there were 77 pre-registered attendees. Dr Clayton Childress (University of Toronto – Scarborough) gave the morning keynote lecture, and a plenary panel addressed the theme, ‘Media Sociology as a Vocation,’ and featured Prof Laura Grindstaff (UC Davis), Prof Paul Hirsch (Northwestern University), Prof Ronald Jacobs (SUNY Albany), Dr Paul Lopes (Colgate University), and Prof Guobin Yang (University of Pennsylvania).
