Marisol speaks in Rotterdam at Symposium on Surveillance, Big Data and Digital Rights
Earlier this week Marisol Sandoval participated in a symposium on Surveillance, Big Data and Digital Rights organised by the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The day began with a workshop on counter surveillance tools led by privacy activists. In the afternoon Marisol gave a talk on corporate irresponsibility in the age of social media and digital culture.
Marisol spoke alongside Benjamin Mako Hill, assistant professor at the University of Washington’s Department of Communication, and a board member of Free Software Foundation; and David Lyon, Research Chair in Surveillance Studies at Queen’s University, Canada.
The symposium concluded with a public screening of the documentary The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz.
