Andy sent to Siberia

Andy spent a few days in October in Yekaterinburg in Western Siberia at the 4th Urals Art Fair. Andy gave lectures on precarious labour in the cultural economy, and on methodologies for evaluating creative cities (based on their local capacities). The strand that Andy was speaking in was “art as an enterprise”.The event was fascinating, seeing the latest contemporary art from the region, and from international artists. The air fair was situated in a deserted factory for scientific instruments (which was perviously a library!). It was a perfect setting. Another aspect of the visit was to visit the Yeltsin Centre /Museum (see picture); the city is the birthplace of President Yeltsin. The museum is a massive structure; a workspace, a shopping mall, and a multimedia museum.
