CCCI at African Crossroads, Mombasa (Kenya)
On November 20th to 23rd, City’s CCCI member, Dr Jenny Mbaye, was invited to participate in the second edition of African Crossroads focused on ‘Sensing the City’ and which was taking place in Mombasa (Kenya).
Funded by Hivos, African Crossroads is community of future-oriented African thinkers and doers which meets annually to exchange and critically reflect on the most cutting-edge entrepreneurial, scientific, artistic and technological developments anchored in African intellectual and technological traditions.
As part of this edition dedicated to exploring how the city transforms into a sensory being, a living sentient organism, Jenny moderated a session entitled on ‘Pasts Meeting Futures’, which engaged a discussion about African intellectual traditions, knowledge systems, oral traditions, storytelling and history trade to build the future.
Panel was composed of creatives from vary different backgrounds – from fashion designer to innovation entrepreneur, visual artist and music history scholar and from all over the continent, with remarkable inputs from Amna Elshandaweely (Egypt); Femi Longe (Nigeria); Pierre-Christophe Gam (France/Cameroon/Chad); and Mhoze Chikowero (Zimbabwwe).
