BACK TO THE FUTURE III
On Friday, Janet was part of a panel debate on the past, present, and future of independent arts and cultural spaces in Berlin Mitte – Berlin’s central inner-city district that is mainly characterized by high arts cultural infrastructure investments from national and regional cultural policies and subject to successive rounds of redevelopment and waves of gentrification. Together with representatives from the local council and the arts scene, Janet discussed potential new forms of cultural governance in the borough that draw on distinct practices of artistic self-organization as well as the close relationships between the artist’s communities and local administration in the 1990s. BACK TO THE FUTURE III was part of a three-day program in the ACUD MACHT NEU, an independent multi-arts venue in Berlin Mitte, and funded by the cultural fund for Berlin Mitte.
