Ros and Les had an animated exchange about this last year in the International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10767-017-9263-9 They continued their good-natured discussion with a packed audience at in the Sociology Department at Warwick and next week we will be welcoming Les Back to City. Thanks to Jo Littler for organising this event at City!
On Wednesday 7 February, 2:30-4pm Rosalind Gill will be in conversation with Les Back about his book Academic Diary, in D104, The Rhind Building, City, University of London. Academic Diary takes the innovative form of reflecting on university life — its meanings and rituals — throughout the year, whilst chronicling Professor Les Back’s experience in the academy, asking if universities are still relevant and whether academics should be allowed near Twitter. Professor Rosalind Gill has written a number of widely influential pieces on the neoliberal university. Please join us for the Department of Sociology’s first open seminar of the spring term. All welcome.
