Jo does keynote at UCU Cradle to Grave conference
Dr Jo Littler from CCCI gave a keynote at the UCU (University and College Union) national conference held in Manchester last Saturday. The ‘Cradle to Grave’ conference brought together several hundred FE and HE lecturers and activists to discuss issues affecting the educational sector and the idea of a National Education Service (ie an NHS for education). The other keynote speakers were Angela Rayner — the Labour MP and Shadow Secretary for Education – who pledged that a Labour government would end the marketisation of the sector as well as abolishing student fees, and John Harris from The Guardian who talked about the challenges education faces from technology in all its permutations. Jo talked about the myths of meritocracy and the need for education to be based on co-operation rather than corporate profit.
