InCites is a customised, citation-based research analytics tool on the Web from Thompson Reuters that enables you to evaluate institutional productivity and benchmark your output against peers worldwide. It uses data from the Web of Science database
InCites supplies data and tools to produce targeted, customised reports. You can conduct in-depth analyses of your institution’s role in research, as well as produce focused snapshots that showcase particular aspects of research performance. it is important to compare like with like and InCites uses normalised data and indicates for example the average number of citations from a journal as a benchmark.
There are 3 parts to InCites:
1. Research Performance Profiles. This is customised data for an institution, in this case City University London. Reports such as productivity and researcher output and impact and citation rankings in the institution.
2. Global Comparisons. This is divided into two parts. National comparisons allows comparison of publication and citation performance data for more than 180 countries and nine geopolitical regions and Institutional comparisons allows comparison of publication and citation performance data for institutions and/or groups of institutions.
3. Institutional Profiles bring together data provided by institutions about their research programs, a survey of reputations in the research community, and citation data from the Web of Science. Comparisons graphs can be produced.
