The SIG – dissemination to date!

Looking back at the Video SIG, which was set up in October 2012, it was good to see how much dissemination we have managed to do – despite a very busy year for us all in the Educational Technology Community (ETC) here at City. We started in November 2012 with a webinar, which covered the use of video technologies in three schools, in the subject areas of Business, Law and Nursing.  Watch the webinar recording on the Blog post.

Two workshops for City staff followed, at the Cass Business School Showcase in May 2013 and at the Learning@City Conference in June 2013, both attracted a good mix of academic and professional services staff, who wanted to find out more about the Media Pic & Mix available to them.

These workshops introduced pedagogy and associated methods to the attendees and highlighted the new educational video technologies coming to City in Autumn 2013. SIG members were instrumental in inviting Professor Diana Laurillard to both events, where she gave the keynote speeches and attended a number or presentations and workshops.

Coming up in 2013:  altc2013 Building new cultures of learning – The Video SIG has a short presentation at the ALT C 2013 Conference (The 20th annual conference of the Association for Learning Technology 10–12 September 2013, Nottingham, UK).  Entitled “101 things about Video” members of the SIG will recount how we gathered requirements and selected new video technologies to meet our needs.

The SIG plans for the year ahead include, webinars, conference workshops and more sharing with colleagues in other institutions. We look forward to launching a new webinar service (Adobe Connect) our Video Platform (Kaltura) and our extensive lecture capture service ( Echo 360).

We have been also been working with our colleagues at London School of Economics, Manchester Metropolitan University and UCL and were there at the start of the Kaltura UK user group. We are keen to build a community of practice “at City and Beyond” – so watch this space and do get intocuh if you want to take part!
