This post shares photos of the Educational Technology Team and how we work across three themes and undertake numerous projects.
Educational Technology Team members are organised into the three themes of:
- Blended Learning
- Multimedia
- Learning Spaces
This aligns with institutional priorities and enables the team to support, discover and promote a range of educational technology tools, systems and practices.
Multimedia theme as described by Multimedia Theme Lead, Mo Pamplin:
“The Multimedia theme of LEaD is currently working with colleagues from around the Schools and Professional Services, offering advice, training and resources to help staff to create high-quality multimedia resources such as videos, podcasts and animations. We welcome enquiries from colleagues who want to integrate multimedia into their teaching, either to produce high-quality videos, to use do-it-yourself multimedia production tools, or to understand how to use online multimedia repositories for teaching and learning. The theme team also runs the Multimedia Innovation and Learning Lab (MILL) at Goswell Place, giving you access to training, recording and editing facilities and equipment available for loan.”
Blended Learning theme as described by Blended Learning Theme Lead, Olivia Fox:
“The Blended Learning Theme of LEaD works with academics and professional staff providing advice and guidance in using Moodle, City blogs and Turnitin to support different online modes of delivery. This includes web-enhanced, blended and distance learning, from the planning stage through to implementation and review. Educational Technologists in Blended Learning can provide you with expert advice, training and resources on how to use our online systems to support a range of teaching and learning activities. Our theme also develops induction resources to support students using a range of educational technologies effectively.”
Learning Spaces theme as described by previous Learning Spaces Theme Lead, Kate Reader:
“City University London is currently engaged in the redevelopment of its estate, a major part of which is the re-conceptualization of the Learning Spaces. LEaD are
working collaboratively with the architects, Estates, Properties and Facilities and the AV and IT departments as well as students and academic staff to ensure that pedagogical principles are considered in the redesigning of City University’s learning spaces. As well as developing and evaluating new spaces, the theme offers advice, training and resources to help staff further develop their use of all our Learning Spaces and enabling staff and students to utilize cutting edge technology in the Learning Environment. The theme also explores, supports and evaluates emerging pedagogies, and the technologies that support these, such as the flipped classroom model, mobile devices and the use of augmented reality on the campus.”
Projects
There are two Project Management Leads whose role focuses on co-ordinating the educational technology projects including project management, resourcing, communication and project work. Here is a flavour of some of the projects the educational technology team is currently working on:

- Developing a rubric to support UG Sociology and Psychology to deliver online feedback
- With SHS, developing the next level of virtual world simulation for health sciences (Shareville)
- Introducing and exploring the use of video to extend lab work in undergraduate Civil and Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering courses
- Initiating a learning analytics project, to explore the potential ways of measuring usage and interaction with Moodle
- Evaluating the current lecture room Pods, and suggesting what the next generation Pod ought to contain
- Working with PAF to deliver phase 2 and 3 lecture room designs’ strategic priorities
