My name is Maz Mullarkey and I am the Widening Participation Team Careers Adviser.
Understandably, with the current situation, students have faced a massive disruption to their education, including not having access to careers advice. With normal academic life put on hold, this is a very confusing time for all.
I work on an impartial basis, with students aged 13 plus, capable of, and aspiring to university/higher education.
Criteria for eligibility
If you’re a teacher in a school with a high proportion of widening participation students (with at least 40% of students listed as receiving free school meals) and require support for students in the remaining weeks of the summer term, I am offering careers information, advice and guidance remotely. Additionally, if you’re a teacher needing careers support for students over the summer holiday period, or have a list of students considering university who could benefit from a telephone careers interview during July and August, do get in touch. Students will need to meet one or more of our criteria listed here.
How I can help
I am currently offering the following online sessions (facilitated by a school staff member) via platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Zoom:
- Introduction to Higher Education/Choosing a University Course
- Personal Statements
- Subject-specific talks
I am also offering one-to-one careers interviews via telephone.
Additionally, If you’re a Year 12 student wanting to have a discussion about your choices or a Year 13 student seeking advice about your options/choices around Clearing time – do get in contact. Similarly, if you’re a parent/guardian seeking careers advice for your child (under 16) please also make contact on: wpcareersadvice.1@city.ac.uk and we can discuss your needs and arrange a mutually convenient time for contact.
