Hi, my name is Selin and I am the Micro-Placements Programme Coordinator here at City! I coordinate the student facing side of the Programme and oversee the student recruitment process onto the Programme and help facilitate the matching process between employers and students.
Although I may be biased in my opinion, the scheme is a great opportunity to gain professional experience via short summer placements with a wide range of London-based employers!
Get credit for the work you do!
This academic year for the first time the Micro-Placements Programme is a credit-bearing elective! This means by taking this employability module you can receive credits for completing the Programme and a work-placement that go towards your end of year mark!
The Programme is focused on providing students the opportunity to explore different career options and gain concise insight into a particular sector which may not be a traditional career path for your degree.
In previous years I have witnessed students not only progress professionally but on a personal level which has been really rewarding. In the current climate it is really fulfilling that we are able to offer employability experiences to give City students the best prospects ready for they graduate.
We help you every step of the way
Whilst at first glance the recruitment and selection process to get onto the Programme may seem daunting and competitive, the Micro-Placements team can offer you support and feedback at every stage of the process. We want to see students succeed and we will provide all the resources necessary to make this possible!
For example our team collaborate with Careers Consultants to provide advice and top tips on compiling a CV and your Micro-Placements Application form!
Given the impact of the pandemic, our recruitment and selection process to get onto the scheme will all take place virtually. Your health and safety is our ultimate priority!
A former Micro-Placement student had this to say about her experiences on the Programme last year:
From interviews and assessment centres to your desired job, the Micro-Placement Programme is a fantastic opportunity that sets you on your journey towards the real working world…
“…The application process alone gives you the necessary insights and feedback to succeed in your future applications. With the continuous support of the MPP team, your placement allows you to grow, develop and reflect upon the chosen job that fits you best. I could not recommend the Micro-Placement Programme enough!” Anna Stepankova, Psychology Student
