Sustainable Urban Regeneration and the Future of the City
The Local Government Officials Development Institute (LOGODI) in South Korea runs various urban policy training programmes. As part of national policy initiatives programmes, on 1stOctober, Robin Kim gave a special lecture at City, University of London to 15 senior policymakers on sustainable urban regeneration and the future of the city.
The objective of the visit was to explore how London’s sustainable urban regeneration policies have been established. Korean cities are now struggling to set up proper guidelines that lead urban development in a sustainable way. London is regarded as a good example in providing Korean cities with lessons in relation to sustainable urban regeneration.
Robin’s lecture focused on the main principles and concepts enshrined in several key policies including the London Plan. In particular, he explained how urban policies indicate London’s attempt to meet economic, social and environmental needs through the formulation of effective planning guidelines. After the lecture, strategic processes and methods were discussed by which they might launch sustainable urban regeneration policy initiatives for Korean cities.
