28 Bedford Square (again)
In the last few months Ros has taken part in two events co-organized by the Nuffield Council for Bioethics and funded by AHRC. Both centred around ‘beauty demands’ and the globalization of beauty norms http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/generic/beauty/about/index.aspx
Kate Harvey, Senior Research Officer at the Nuffield, was so struck by Ros’s work – with Ana Sofia Elias from King’s – on the rise and rise of beauty apps that she wrote a blog about it http://nuffieldbioethics.org/blog/2015/smaller-nose-bigger-boobs-flatter-stomach-app/) and on June 22nd Ros will visiting 28 Bedford Square again, as one of a small number of invited experts contributing to the Council on Bioethics’s call for evidence about cosmetic procedures.
Ros and Ana’s first paper on the topic of beauty apps is coming out in the European Journal of Cultural Studies soon. Their book Aesthetic Labour, co-edited with Christina Scharff, is due out later this year with Palgrave http://www.palgrave.com/de/book/9781137477644
