Last week, department PhD student Kate Mattocks presented a paper at the Political Studies Association’s annual conference in Sheffield. As the Communications Officer of the PSA’s Graduate Network, Kate also co-hosted the postgraduate drinks reception, which featured a talk entitled What it’s like to be a young woman in academia, by Dr Fran Amery of the University of Bath.

Kate is also involved with the PSA’s Equality & Diversity and spoke briefly at the group’s lunchtime brainstorming session, “Pale, Male and Stale.” The E&D group actively takes forward issues of diversity in the discipline, particularly concerning the representation of women and black and ethnic minorities (BME).
