Empowering Underrepresented Learners to Access and Succeed in Higher Education
When the world locked down and the WP Outreach team were suddenly unable to visit schools or bring learners on campus, we had to think hard about how to continue to make information, advice and learning about higher education available to our target schools and pupils. We wanted something that would be easily accessible to everyone, even those with limited access to technology. From this the Widening Participation Outreach Blog was born.
The blog is easy to use and aimed at young people, students, teachers, and parents. It has information and resources from key stage 2 up to transition into Higher education.
You will find posts from staff and students across City covering topic such as:
- Advice from our career’s adviser on gaining work experience and insight into different careers, even during covid-19 restrictions
- Information to support your personal statement for HE
- Black history resources for young people and parents
- What it is like to study different subjects at City
- Tips on making the most of uni, including how to make friends and how to manage your money
- Meeting our City students
- Primary School Activities such as crazy creatures from the past, and transition from primary to secondary school
- Support for parents, including advice on higher education

Online events and webinars
Teachers who would like to know more about the events and activities we run online, and when covid restrictions lift, in person, please get in touch. We work with primary schools and secondary schools with above average number of pupils on free school meals and further education colleges.
