Scholarship applications for 2021 intake

We are now accepting applications for MSc Programme Scholarships for 2021 intake!

Available Scholarships – for a list of scholarships on offer, and their eligibility criteria, please see our website. If any other scholarships are confirmed in the coming months they will be advertised on the website, and we will endeavour to contact eligible offer-holders to inform them.

General requirements – In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must have accepted, and paid the deposit for, a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on a full-time MSc degree at The Business School (formerly Cass). Unless otherwise stated we do not accept scholarship applications from applicants who do not hold an offer on an MSc degree at The Business School (formerly Cass).

Deadlines

  • Haberman Fund; Iain Allan Bursary; Red Shoe Scholarship; September 11th Insurance Trust Scholarship; The Real Estate Club Scholarship – 11 May 2021
  • Stelios Scholarship; Clélia Haji-Ioannou Scholarship; Matti Michael Xylas (MMX) Scholarship – 20 May 2021

Late applications will not be accepted.

Decisions – We know how important it is to confirm the scholarship results as soon as possible. Decisions are normally announced between June and August, and all applicants are informed of the outcome of their application.

How to apply – Unless otherwise stated, scholarship applications must be submitted online through the dedicated application form on our website. Each scholarship has its own application form and therefore if you are eligible for more than one you will need to fill in an application form for each scholarship.

You will be asked to provide some contact details, information about your academic background and any other funding you’ve applied for. The final part of the application is a series of short essay questions.

You can choose to save your progress and return to the form later – please remember to submit the application before the deadline! After you submit the application you will be emailed a copy of your application form answers. It is not possible to make changes to your application form after you’ve submitted it, and we are not able to provide updates on the status of individual applications.

Sometimes the awarding panel will interview shortlisted candidates (normally through Skype or a phone call) or request further documentation.

Tips for the application:

  • Only the eligible courses and country of permanent resident options will appear in the drop-down list in the first section of the application.
  • When inputting details of your academic background, please use your institution’s grading system (do not convert it to another system), and ensure you include the grading scale (e.g. 1.2 out of 5 low).
  • There are no right or wrong answers to the essay questions, but this is an important part of the application. The awarding panel do not have access to your degree documents or CV unless they specifically request them, so ensure that you include everything you feel is important in your essay answers.
  • Please note that there is a word limit to the essay questions, so make sure that your full answer is showing before you submit the application.
  • Allow plenty of time to complete the application – don’t leave it until the deadline! Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Check your application before submitting it – look out for spelling and grammar mistakes, and ensure that your student number and email address are correct. Ideally, please use the same email address that you used when you submitted your course application, and ensure that you will still have access to the email address during the summer.

Unfortunately, not all applicants will be eligible for our scholarships. In these cases, we recommend that you take a look at external funding opportunities – we have listed some on our website.

If you have any queries please contact Kate.Hodson.1@city.ac.uk. Good luck!

Top tips for writing your Personal Statement and CV

As you prepare your application for Cass Business School, we are sure that you are keen to sell yourself and demonstrate your suitability for your chosen course. One of the best ways to demonstrate your enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, a course or industry sector is through your personal statement and CV. A well-written personal statement and CV can help the admissions panel understand your motivation, which might not be conveyed through your degree transcript alone. In this post we give you some hints and tips for writing your personal statement and CV. Please remember that these two documents form part of your whole application file, and a successful application will also require a solid academic background that meets our requirements.

Personal Statement

  • Be concise – We are often asked how long the personal statement should be. Ideally it should be 500-600 words, although there is no particular limit. It is better to be concise so the admissions panel can easily pick out the key points.
  • Look to the future – The admissions panel use the personal statement to determine whether the course you have applied for is right for you. You should therefore address why you want to take the course, and what your future careers aspirations are. If you can, demonstrate how particular modules will help you in the field you wish to enter after graduating.
  • Do your research – Find out about the School and the course before writing your personal statement. Is there anything that particularly catches your eye or interests you? Mentioning something that is specific to Cass Business School or the course, and explaining how it will benefit you, will show the admissions panel that you have taken the time to read and learn about the School or course.
  • Tailor your statement – We expect that you are submitting applications to other Business Schools. However, do not make the mistake of sending the same statement to every School. It is often obvious when an applicant has not tailored their statement for their application to Cass Business School. Following from the above point, ensure that you are writing your statement specifically for the course that you wish to apply for at Cass, and mention the course name in the statement.
  • Sell yourself! – The personal statement is the only document where you can really convince the admissions panel of your motivation and suitability for the course. Other supporting documents such as the degree transcript are the hard evidence of your achievements, but they cannot convey a passion for a subject. Use this opportunity to tell us about yourself – what makes you stand out? How do you think the course will help you in your future career? What can you give back to the Cass community? If there are any discrepancies in your academic background you can provide an explanation here. Above all, your career ambitions should comprise the greatest part of your statement.

Secure electronic transcripts and degree verification

In this post we offer advice on how offer-holders can send their secure electronic degree transcript to us for verification.

For a successful MSc applicant to receive an unconditional offer, all credentials must be verified, so an original or certified hard copy of the final degree transcript must be sent by post to Cass Business School, Specialist Masters Programme Office, 106 Bunhill Row, London, EC1Y 8TZ, UK or a secure electronic transcript received by the MSc Admissions Team directly from the issuing institution.

Electronic transcript (e-transcript) is an official University/Institution document delivered to the nominated recipient over a secure network/platform, upon the student giving appropriate permission or consent (e.g. providing their nominated recipient’s email address when placing the order). E-transcript is certified by a digital signature (i.e. Academic Registrar) and contains special security features. The nominated recipient, for example Admissions Officer or Employer, receives instructions on how to authenticate the electronic transcript, including the necessary steps to acquire an access code/token to view and print the official e-transcript.
