Spotlight on our Quants courses

Are you interested in studying one of our Quants courses, but not sure which one to apply for? There is increasing demand from employers for recruits with strong quantitative skills, so earning a Masters in one of our quantitative courses could be your key to success if you have the right background. Read on, as we focus on our quantitative courses, and what we are looking for in successful candidates.

The three quantitative programmes (MSc Financial Mathematics, MSc Quantitative Finance and MSc Mathematical Trading and Finance) share many similarities. To be specific, they share some of the same modules in Term one and Term two, such as ‘Asset Pricing’ ‘Derivatives’, ‘Fixed Income’, ‘Stochastic Modelling in Finance’ and ‘Risk Analysis.’ All programmes enable students to acquire the sophisticated mathematics and computer-modelling skills required to employ newly developed investment products and financial strategies for pricing, hedging, trading and portfolio management decisions.

Each programme has its own specialism and career prospects associated with it. These differences are summarised below, in brief, along with the academic entry requirements: Continue Reading →

2017 applications open! Why apply early?

We are pleased to announce that applications for 2017 intake are now open! In this post we explore the benefits of submitting an early application, as well as considering circumstances when it might be worth taking more time before hitting the submit button.

So why apply early?

  • It gives you more time to meet offer conditions. If you’ve been made an offer that is conditional on achieving a certain grade or taking a test such as the GMAT or IELTS, you will have more time to meet our requirements (and, if necessary, retake tests to achieve the required score). Applicants who submit late applications sometimes find that they have very little time in which to meet their offer conditions, particularly if they also need to apply for a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK. Applying early means you have more control over the situation, can pick suitable test dates before they get fully booked, and remove unnecessary stress from the process.
  • Scholarship applications often have early deadlines. The deadline for most Cass Scholarships is early May, but many external scholarship providers have much earlier deadlines. In order to apply for a Cass Scholarship you must have first received and fully accepted an offer on one of our MSc courses, and this is also often a requirement for external scholarships. Applying early ensures that you are more likely to meet the scholarship application deadline.
  • There is a greater chance that your first-choice course will still be accepting applications. We do not have a set deadline for closing courses, as we accept applications on a rolling basis. This means, however, that some of our most popular courses tend to close earlier in the admissions cycle as they become full. Maximise your chances of being accepted onto your first choice course by submitting an early application.

How to get the most out of the MSc Careers Fair on September the 19th

In our final blog Careers Relationship Manager, Charlie Statham, gives us an insight into how you can prepare for the annual MSc Careers Fair.

About the Fair:

Careers fairs give you the chance to meet employers face-to-face, and to learn about current vacancies and opportunities available. The recruiters are trying to market their organisations to you.

Cass holds its annual careers fair during the induction period before term begins – this year it is taking place on Monday the 19th of September between 14:00 and 17:30 at etc. venues, 155 Bishopsgate, London, EC2M 3YD.

Why do we hold it so early?  We hold it at this time because many of the employers attending the fair will have already opened their graduate recruitment process and many will have deadlines for applications in October / November

The fair is an opportunity for you to ask questions and market yourself to potential employers. Often the stands will be manned by graduate recruitment staff, recent alumni and / or senior managers.  It can be difficult for students to stand out at Fairs as there are so many people there and it can seem overwhelming. Being prepared therefore is the best way to make a good impression and get noticed. Interested in MSc Actuarial Science or MSc Actuarial Management but unsure which is the best fit for you? Read on, as we focus on our MSc actuarial degrees at Cass Business School…

Why choose MSc Actuarial Science/MSc Actuarial Management at Cass Business School?

The MSc Actuarial Science and MSc Actuarial Management courses are accredited by the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries – http://www.actuaries.org.uk/. Lecturers use their commercial experience and research expertise to deliver a challenging, relevant and intellectually stimulating course.

What employment opportunities are there?

Actuaries are experts in risk management. They use their mathematical skills to help measure the probability and risk of future events. There is a continuous demand for capable postgraduate level executives in the actuarial profession, whose members are among the highest paid in the UK. They work in fields such as insurance (life/non-life departments), consulting, government departments, banks and investment firms, teaching and research. Continue Reading →
