Language and communication skills develop gradually as children get older. It is important that people working with children understand what typical language development is like. This module gives examples of children’s language at different ages.

The module also gives information about communication partners and communication environments. Children need to see people using language in different situations. They need to have oppotunities to use their language with lots of other people and for lots of reasons.

Sometimes we can support communication partners or communication environments to help a child develop better language skills.
