[Workshop]
The session will review and discuss support (content and format) for adopting learning and teaching approaches that meet the needs for the academic year 2021-22 by focusing on curriculum review and (re)design.
Lecturers have now been teaching mostly online for over a year. Last Summer they had to redesign their modules and programmes to address the new teaching, learning and assessment challenges which arose from the pandemic and subsequent restrictions on face-to-face teaching. They are facing familiar yet different challenges when preparing for the next academic year. The word of order is flexibility and various scenarios are being planned by City (City, University of London, 2021) to cater for the uncertain conditions under which teaching will take place from September.
Last year LEaD developed many resources and offers of support to both teachers and students via the various teams that make up the department. The School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) and The School of Health Sciences (SHS) School Liaison Team which comprises members of the Academic Team, Academic Skills Team and Digital Learning collaborated with the then Associate Dean for Education at SHS to develop an online portal for the School along with online drop in sessions to support lecturers with redesigning their modules following on City’s Teaching and Learning Principles (Quinsee, 2020) and the School’s own good practice (Knight, 2020). They then adapted it to respond to the needs of SASS.
The team is keen to review its offer in light of the new challenges for the next academic year to ensure that:
- The format and content of its offer is relevant and appropriate to the needs of lecturers at City and within their own School.
- Lecturers are equipped with skills and knowledge around curriculum (re)design for post pandemic teaching, building on their experience from this academic year.
- Good practice and lessons learnt are shared and discussed and inform our future strategy, so we continue providing adequate learning, teaching and assessment support to teaching staff.
- Students benefit from the best learning experience as a result of these.
We propose to share our experience with this support offer to then open group conversations around content and format of subsequent offer and provide a space for educators to share experiences, challenges and good practice.
