5 ways to #TakeABreak from coursework/exams

Are you looking to move away from the stressfulness and embrace a little calmness? Here are 5 things you can do via CityLibrary to take your mind off of coursework and exams for a few minutes:

1. Listen to some music

Naxos is a sensational streaming resource featuring classical, jazz and contemporary styles. Personally I love a bit of Brahms Hungarian Dance No.5.

If you’re feeling more retro, we have a CD collection on Level 5 which you can browse and borrow. I know, actual physical media.

2. Discover some poetry

“There once was a child from Nantucket, who kept lots of ants in a bucket…” well, maybe limericks aren’t your thing, but maybe Carol Ann Duffy is? We’ve a substantial poetry collection in print and online, see what you can can discover using CityLibrary Search or LION (Literature Online).

3. Browse a magazine

PressReader opens up a world of online magazine and newspaper reading covering topics such as news, entertainment, travel and pets. That’s right, pets.

Magazine cover: title text reads "Min Hast" (Swedish) and features a picture of a brown pony with a lighter coloured mane.

4. Gaze out at the City

Level 6 of Northampton Square Library offers panoramic views over London, and the Financial Resources Suite on Level 5 offers a cityscape vista. Top tip: in the evening, the sunsets out to the west are often spectacular.

5. Watch a movie

Kanopy is an immediate go-to, with feature films, documentaries, world cinema and art house classics. If you’re feeling more retro, we have a DVD collection on Level 5 which you can browse and borrow. I know, actual physical media. No, really. (You can play them on the PCs too).
