As Black History Month comes to an end in the UK, we want to highlight some of the books chosen by the City community to celebrate and educate about black lives.
You recommended these titles through our Liberating CityLibrary scheme.
So far, you’ve recommended illuminating history texts: Black artists in British art: a history since the 1950s by Eddie Chambers, War to Windrush: black women in Britain 1939 to 1948 by Stephen Bourne and Britain’s black past edited by Gretchen Gerzina.
Anti-racism books like Brit(ish): on race, identity and belonging by Afua Hirsch and Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race by Reni Eddo-Lodge.
And page-turning memoirs such as Diane Abbott: The Authorised Biography by Robin Bunce and Samara Linton.
But, although October is nearly over, it doesn’t mean we stop learning about and celebrating the history- and future- of black Britons.
