Music Online is a wide-ranging database of scores, recordings, videos, and reference works for music and dance. It’s a fantastic resource for music scholars, musicians at all levels, and anyone with an interest in a wide range of streaming music and performance.
Once you’ve logged in with your usual City credentials, you can search the entire database, or select a specific collection to search based on whether you’re looking for audio, video, scores, or text. You can also browse by title, instrument, composer, genre, and more.
Highlights of Music Online include:
- The Classical Scores Library, which includes over 50,000 classical scores from medieval to contemporary. Choral, orchestral, and solo works are all available, as well as a range of opera and stage works.
- Music Libraries for audio recordings of classical, jazz, popular, American, and contemporary and historical world music, all available for streaming.
- Video Libraries of classical performance and dance, with over 2,500 recordings of performances available to stream. Classical performances include opera and concert performances, while the dance library includes performances from classical to modern dance. Both libraries also include commentary and documentary videos.
- Reference Libraries for a wide range of musical genres. This also includes the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music.
