LibKey Nomad, a useful tool for research

Searching for articles? LibKey Nomad is what you need!

LibKey Nomad is the Chrome browser extension from Browzine that will help you find copies of either Open Access articles or articles that City subscribes to.

 

You can download the LibKey Nomad extension from the Chrome Store.

You just need to select your institution (City, University of London) then it will pop up with a link in the bottom left corner of your browser when it finds a copy of an article.

Group study spaces outside the Library at Northampton Square

Study spaces are in high demand during the exam period, and the Library can be very busy.

A number of group study spaces outside the Library are also available for you to use:

  • Tait Building: the Garden Café, the sofas near the Students’ Union, the tables at the entrance to the Tait building from the University Building, the area outside the Oliver Thompson Lecture Theatre, the learning space next to the City Faith Centre
  • University Building: the Pavilion (the area near the main entrance), the sofas near the main entrance coffee shop, the coffee shop, the refectory, the breakout spaces in the stairwell to BM02
  • Drysdale Building: the breakout spaces on the lower ground floor, the area in front of the Careers Service
  • And any empty teaching room

Bookable Individual Silent Study Desks for 24/7 opening

Bookable individual silent study desks will return for the January assessment period at the Northampton Square Library and the Cass Learning Resource Centre.

Students can book a desk to study for up to three hours a day, a maximum of four times a week. Each session can be booked up to one week in advance.  The full terms and conditions are given in the booking process.

All the spaces will be bookable Mon – Fri 9am – 9pm, and midday – 6pm on weekends.

The desks will be clearly marked so you can find the place you booked. And remember, if a space is empty then you can study there without a booking, but you will need to make way when someone with a booking arrives.

The desks are bookable 2nd – 18th January inc.  You can make a booking up to seven days in advance.

Northampton Square Library

The bookable desks are on Level 5 and can be found on the Spencer Street side just beyond the Help Desk.

Cass Learning Resource Centre

There are ten desks in the quiet area of the library.

 

New water fountains at Northampton Square

Following students’ feedback, we have worked with our colleagues in Property and Facilities to install two new water fountains in the Northampton Square Library.

You can now refill your water bottle from the following locations:

  • Level 2: in the lift/stairwell area near the window
  • Level 3: in the lift/stairwell area near the window
  • Level 5: towards the back of the floor near the Music section (shelfmarks 780s)

Northampton Square Level 3: new furniture

On Friday 24th August, we will be installing more new furniture on Level 3. It will take all day. As it will be noisy, you might want to go and study in another area.

Keep an eye out for our new look!

Library Services on 12th July

To allow for a staff development event on Thursday 12th July Library sites will be open for reference and self-service only.

Access on that day will only be available to City University students, staff and registered Library users.

Normal opening hours will apply. Staffed services will resume at 9am on the following day, Friday 13th July.

Northampton Square Library Levels 4 and 6: temporary closure

 

Monday 25th June – Sunday 15th July: Level 4

Level 4 of the Northampton Square Library is closed Monday 25th June – Friday 15th July inc. This is to allow for the installation of energy efficient lighting.

Thursday 21st June – Tuesday 31st July: Level 6

Level 6 of the Northampton Square Library is closed Thursday 21st June – Tuesday 31st July inc. This is to allow for works related to staff offices to take place.

In order to minimise disruption we have scheduled this work to take place in off-peak times, apologies for any inconvenience this causes you.

Silent study spaces

Monday 25th June – Sunday 15th July inc.

Silent study spaces will only be available on Level 5.
There won’t be any silent study PC lab available at the Northampton Square Library.

Monday 16th July – Tuesday 31st July inc.

Silent study spaces will be available on Levels 4 and 5.
A silent study PC lab will remain available on Level 4.

Silent study and computing facilities are also available at the Law Libraries (Gray’s Inn Place and Innovation Centre) and at Cass Learning Resources Centre.
