What support do you offer to students?
As Subject Librarians we provide library support for teaching and learning for the School of Arts and Social Sciences. This includes managing the library collections; purchasing library material for the modules taught at City; delivering group training for undergraduate and postgraduate students; and attending school meetings.
We can support students and academic staff with finding and accessing material they need for their assignments and research and explain how to make the best use of the online resources we subscribe to.
Which subjects do you support?
Antonella: Economics, International Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Food Policy and Cultural Policy
Alex: Journalism, Music, English, Publishing, Creative Writing and Translation
Best thing about working at City?
Alex: The University has an international feel, friendly staff and great Central London location.
Antonella: It is great to meet you new students and staff from all over the world.
Favourite Library resource/space?
Antonella: It is difficult to select just one library resource. Social Sciences covers so many different subjects, I could name a favourite resource for each discipline. However, if I have to choose only one it is Sage Research Methods Online which covers every aspects of research principles, design and analysis.
I would definitely recommend Cite them right Online, which helps students reference correctly any type of material.
Alex: Our very own CityLibrary Search is a great tool for cross-searching all of our resources when you’re in a rush. You can use it to access articles, books and even stream music and read plays.
I also love Nexis UK for current affairs research as it lets you search the contents of hundreds of newspapers at one time and Box of Broadcasts for accessing a huge archive of TV and radio content from the last ten years.
