The Learning and Development Centre, as always, is holding an autumn research methods and skills development day on the 4th of December. These events provide excellent opportunities for staff members to share their experiences and network with colleagues. Primarily this is aimed at providing City University London’s doctoral students the opportunity to learn from accomplished researchers sharing their areas of experience at the institution.
There will be a range of interactive sessions around the theme of research methodologies and skills, and the wide scope of the event means that sessions will be relevant to many different stages of the research process. Some of the topics covered will include –
- Working effectively with your supervisor: expectations and planning
- Writing abstracts, preparing posters and papers for presentation at conferences
- Tips on Designing Questionnaires for Research
- Introduction to bibliographic skills, information retrieval and literature searching.
The highlight of the day will feature a panel discussion with two recent graduates from City University London doctoral courses, comparing the relative merits of different vocational pathways after completing a research degree. Dr Kiki Koutmeridou will be speaking about working in industry, while Dr Esha Massand will give her perspective, having continued with academic research. Don’t miss out!
