Moodle guidance
The Educational Technology Team are updating the Moodle guidance on www.city.ac.uk/edtechhelp/staff. We have marked guidance on new features with a NEW! to help you identify changes to functionality. This post highlights some of the key guidance that you might find useful in developing your modules in Moodle 2.6.
Assignment guidance
- Guidance for setting up a Moodle Individual assignment, including information on marking workflow, marker allocation and the new Turnitin plagiarism plugin.
- Please be aware that the Turnitin plugin will not generate originality reports for group assignments and our guidance reflects this. Guidance on setting up a Moodle group assignment.
- All Turnitin assignments set up after 12th July will be created using version 2 of the Turnitin assignment plugin. Guidance on setting up a Turnitin Assignment 2 is available. Staff can continue marking version 1 assignments in Moodle 2.6.
- If you require students to resubmit an assignment following a fail at first or subsequent attempts you will find the improvements in assignment resubmission useful. Guidance on assignment resubmission.
Content creation improvements
- Guidance on changes to the editing tools.
- Guidance on new Atto text editor which has been designed specifically for Moodle and is easier to use on mobile and tablet devices.
Improved layout and navigation options
- Guidance on fullscreen mode which allows you to expand the central module content and hide the blocks. This is particularly useful when working in the Grader report (Gradebook).
- Improvements when adding a course image to new modules.
- Improvements to filtering modules by year/period.
- Reports have moved from Module menu to Settings.
We’re continuing to update the guidance for staff on new features and will let you know as guidance becomes available.
