School of Health Sciences Library Treasure Hunt – Catherine Radbourne and Steve McCombe
Steve McCombe from LEaD, and Catherine Radbourne from Library Services, presented a recent project they had worked on to create a pirate-themed treasure hunt for Health Sciences students. Students were asked to search for books and articles and answer questions based on their search results, as well as the content of particular literature (their answers sealed the fate of the ship captain!). The activity was a fun way to introduce new students to the process of searching for books and articles online, as well as using these to gather information. The resource combined video clips with quiz questions using Adobe Presenter. Below is the introductory video, you can view the full resource here: https://city.adobeconnect.com/treasure.
Multimedia Development – Mo Pamplin
Mo Pamplin from LEaD talked about the upcoming developments in services available to staff. This will include an upcoming upgrade to our video hosting service (Mediaspace) which will include new functions such as for chaptering, downloading of video files and the addition of multiple-choice quiz questions. As well as this, the LEaD team will soon be moving from Goswell Place into the University Building. The move will give us the opportunity to provide brand-new facilities including a digital production studio with green screen, autocue and state-of-the-art cameras, as well as multimedia production booths, in a more convenient location.
Advocacy Videos Project – Fariha Afgan
I had recently completed a project which involved filming courtroom scenarios for the BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) Evidence module. Filming took place in the student courtrooms at Princeton Street, whilst the lecturers’ introductions were filmed in our old TV studio in front of a green screen. You can read more about it on this blog post, which includes a feedback video by Robin Sellers from City Law School.
Legal Research Videos – Martin Agombar
Martin Agombar from LEaD presented a project in which he helped to create a series of videos for City Law School, alongside Emily Allbon and Andrew Worthley. The purpose of the series was to explain the importance of case preparation and legal research, to help equip students to use these skills in practice. This also helped to support a practical session in which students take sides on a case.
The videos were filmed in Emily’s office and were interspersed with illustrations highlighting the key points raised. The illustrations were modified using the Videoscribe website, in order to create whiteboard-style animations.
Here is a clip from one of the videos, including some of the animations:
Presentation slides can be found on our Educational Multimedia Group Moodle page which is a self-enrollable module. Anyone who enrols onto the module will be automatically added to the email distribution list for the group, which will be used to arrange future meetings. The next meeting will be held in April 2016.
