Moodle 4 URL
It’s less than one month until City upgrades to Moodle 4, and the new URL will be moodle4.city.ac.uk. From 17 July, staff can access their modules for the new academic year. Older modules will still be accessible to staff and students via moodle.city.ac.uk.
Getting modules ready for the new academic year
From Monday 26 June to Friday 14 July 2023, IT will be backing up taught modules for 2022/23 on Moodle 3.9 and restoring them into Moodle 4. The restored modules (no student data, no activity data and no blocks) can be used as source modules for Import or Rollover.
Any changes made to modules on Moodle 3.9 during this time may not be available in the restored module on Moodle 4.
2022/23 modules with no content will not be restored to Moodle 4. If you need to use a module from an earlier academic year as a source module for Import or Rollover, please log a Generic Service Request on IT Self Service Portal and IT can restore the module for you on Moodle 4.
Moodle 4 training
The Digital Education team has released their calendar of workshops and drop-ins for staff. The full programme of events will start in June and run through to the start of the academic year in September.
The team will run a series of introductory Moodle 4 workshops and drop-in sessions.
- From 27 June, online sessions catering specifically to course officers and other support staff will be run. From 18 July, online sessions for teaching staff will be available.
- From 26 July, all staff are invited to attend weekly drop-in sessions. These will be facilitated in-person by the Digital Education team. They are intended to give staff the time and space to update their modules in a hands-on, supportive environment.
- From August (dates to be confirmed), the team will run workshops for new teaching staff to introduce them to the basics of Moodle.
Access the training calendar for full details, times, dates and locations of each session and to sign up for the online workshops.
