We’ve got a series of posts to help you prepare for the new academic year on Moodle. This is our third post and will cover connecting Lecture Capture to Moodle.

Connect Lecture Capture to Moodle for Term 1
Most taught sessions classified as lectures in the MyTimetable system for Term 1 2024/25 will be automatically scheduled to be recorded using Lecture Capture if they are timetabled in a Lecture Capture enabled room.
After you have rolled over or imported content from last academic year, you must connect Lecture Capture to Moodle for students to review their Lecture Capture recordings. Once automatic scheduling starts for the new academic year, any lecture taking place within the next 180 days will be scheduled to be recorded. There is currently a small subset of lectures that are scheduled manually, but IT hope to have automated these by start of the academic year.
By default – video, audio and display screen are recorded. If you need to change the inputs that are recorded or require live stream, you can request this by completing the Automated Lecture Capture change of details form.
Lecture Capture for tutorials, labs and seminars
If you want to record tutorials, labs and/or seminars you need to submit a request for these to be recorded using the Lecture Capture request form. Ensure that you connect Lecture Capture to Moodle for students to review these recordings.
Improve Lecture Capture sound quality
Request a long-term mic loan. You can quickly pair the microphone with whichever room you are in and this enables you to move around the room and ensures good quality audio in your recording.
Educational technology workshops
Our training programme this summer will concentrate on revising Moodle basics, including how to connect Lecture Capture to Moodle.
There will also be regular hands-on, in-person introductions to the teaching room presentation systems nearly every Tuesday and Thursday. These sessions will be helpful if you want to find out how to pause Lecture Capture during sensitive discussions and how to change your camera angle to capture the whiteboard for the Lecture Capture recording. To see details of the full range of workshops and to book, please see the LEaD training calendar.
If you need help or advice on preparing for the start of the academic year on Moodle, please log a LEaD general request via IT Self Service Portal and the Digital Education team will get in touch.
The next post in this series will provide an overview of changes to the Module dashboard block and its availability in modules using Grid format.
