Assessment: a complex but interesting practice
Do you wonder what good assessment looks like? Do you want to design inclusive and meaningful assessment that engage your students, reflect their learning, and unlock their potential to succeed? If so, the EDM126 assessment design and feedback module, offered on the second year of the MA in Academic Practice programme, is an ideal opportunity for you to explore and discuss these questions whilst deepening your knowledge of effective assessment design and feedback, congruent with disciplinary values and institutional policies, practice and arrangements.
Bear in mind that you don’t have to be registered on the full MA programme to participate in this module. You can undertake it on a standalone basis as a CPD opportunity.

About this module
In this module, we’ll explore a variety of topics related to the design, implementation and evaluation of assessment and feedback in Higher Education. We’ll ponder questions such as the following:
- Who is assessment for?
- How are assessment and feedback conceptualised and perceived by different stakeholders?
- How can we design assessments that provide students with useful information about their progress and how they can be more effective in their learning?
- How can we design inclusive and meaningful assessments?
- How can feedback be integrated into assessment design so that it goes beyond a grade and empowers students to improve?
- How can AI be leveraged to create more personalised and adaptive assessments whilst developing students’ competencies in evaluative judgement?
- What are the ethical considerations in assessment?
- What are some of the benefits and limitations of multimodal assessment and feedback methods?
