Health’s Got Talent is back
After a pandemic-related pause of two years, Health’s Got Talent (HGT) returned on 14th July in a new hybrid format. HGT is the School of Health and Psychological Sciences’ (SHPS) showcase event for celebrating and sharing good practice in teaching and learning.
Staff from each of the school’s six departments* and Student and Academic Services gave a twenty-minute presentation related to inclusivity. Recordings of the presentations can be found by following this link.

A hybrid event
HGT 2022 took place in one of City’s hybrid teaching rooms, C309. C309 is an ISLA-equipped room which allows people to participate in-person and online via Zoom. One presentation was delivered off-site to the room and the online participants.
The event was hosted by Dr Grace Lucas, Director for Educational Enhancement and Innovation, Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and Society and organised by Jacqui Brown, Project and Divisional Administration Manager with the support of Digital Education, Learning Enhancement and Development (LEaD).
The presentations
There was a mixture of in-person and pre-recorded presentations. These focused on accessible systems and processes; thinking about where students see themselves represented; considering the needs of specific student groups; community building to support a sense of belonging; including everyone in classroom spaces and learning opportunities, and ensuring that students are equipped with skills to work in a diverse world. The Judges
The job of the three judges – Koen Slootmaekers (Associate Dean for Student Experience, School of Policy and Global Affairs), Jasmin Burnage (Senior Student Project Officer – Research and Evaluation), and Kevin Sanchez-Aguirre (SHPS Student Representative) – was to choose a winner from the seven presenting groups.
The winners are….
After some intense deliberation, Language and Communication were named as the winners. Professor Debra Salmon, Dean of the School of Health and Psychological Sciences presented the HGT 2022 award to Abigail Levin, Meriem Amer-El-Khedoud, Louise Occomore-Kent and student, Hannah Mohamed.
The audience – in-person and online – enjoyed hearing about the great work that has been taking place in the school. As Dr Grace Lucas said: “It was a great opportunity to reflect and inspire one another as we close this academic year and look ahead to the next. We look forward to next year as SHPS.”
