We’ve got a series of posts to help you prepare for the new academic year on Moodle. This is our fifth post and will cover rollover/import and Grid format.
Grid format is one of the course formats available in Moodle. This format creates a grid of icons (one for each section) with short titles. If you had the Grid format applied to all modules on your programme last year, we will apply this format manually to your modules for the new academic year. We will do this from 16th July 2024 to facilitate the rollover or import process.
Rollover or import
When you rollover or import content into the 2024/25 module, the Grid section images will be included as part of the rollover or import process.
Action after rollover or import
You will need to reset any course format settings you changed in Grid for the 2024/25 module. The course format settings are available by selecting Settings on the contextual navigation menu on the homepage of the module. Scroll down and open the Course format settings. Settings that may need to change include:
- Set the image container width, you might need to increase the width if you have longer section names. By default, 20 characters including spaces will display. You can change these settings at any time.
- Show completion settings to Yes if used this current academic year.
Select Save & display if you make any changes.
If you had been using the Grid format this academic year 2023/24 and need any help post-rollover, please log a General LEaD request via the IT Self Service Portal and the Digital Education team will be in touch to help.
Educational technology workshops
Our training programme this summer will concentrate on revising Moodle basics, especially creating and markings assessments. There is a new workshop on tips and tricks to make working with Moodle 4 as efficient as possible, and one that compares and contrasts all the assessment tools available in Moodle. There will also be regular hands-on, in-person introductions to the teaching room presentation systems nearly every Tuesday and Thursday. To see details of the full range of workshops and to book, please see the LEaD training calendar.
Our next post will focus on assessment.
