Prepare for the new academic year – Support your students’ academic and technical skills

We’ve got a series of posts to help you prepare for the new academic year on Moodle. This is our last post and will cover the support available to your students to use digital technologies and academic skills at City St George’s.

In an earlier post, we looked at Learning With Moodle, which introduces students to using Moodle and allows them to practise using the system. In this post, we’ll look at other modules and resources available to support your students’ studies and technical skills.

Support Modules

Academic Skills and CityReady

This module, created by the Academic Skills team aims to help students learn successfully. The CityReady guide explains the key things they need to know as a new student. Students can use the study skills guides and videos independently, and the team also offer face-to-face workshops, webinars and one-to-one support.

Library Induction module

This module covers the information students will need to get started using the library services at City St George’s. It covers how to find library resources as well as offering vital information on how to reference and cite in academic work.

Other Online Resources

Student Digital Support Community

All students can join the CUoL-Student Digital Support Community. Hosted on Teams, the community supports digital skills and engagement.

There are also workshops (the first on October 2nd 2024 covers digital study skills) and bookable 1:1 sessions if your students need some professional and confidential advice on their studies.

Students are also encouraged to post their questions on the Teams site and offer their own solutions and friendly comments.

Student Educational Technology Guides

Just as the Digital Education team maintains educational technology guides for staff, there is also a set of guides for students. The guides provide help on how to use Moodle, lecture capture, multimedia and much more.

LinkedIn Learning

Don’t forget that all students (and staff) have access to LinkedIn Learning where they can choose from over 6,000 video tutorials covering a wide range of topics, spanning Business, Technology and Creative fields.

Staff training and support

We hope you’ve found this series of blogs useful. The Digital Education team runs workshops on educational technology throughout the year. See the LEaD events calendar to book workshops and for details of other events to support your teaching.
