The LEaD Writing Group has been running for just over 6 months now. The group was set up to encourage more staff to contribute to the Learning at City blog and to provide a time and space for people to do some writing. The sessions aim to provide activities to help staff to develop their writing skills and act as a forum where novice bloggers can get advice. Since we were coming up to the New Year and such liminal phases are a time to reflect, we asked for feedback from the people who had participated in the group. Below is a summary of the key responses.
Overall the feedback was very positive. Those who responded unanimously agreed that attending the group had helped them write at least one blog post. This group said that the writing activities had helped them and that it was useful to be able to discuss ideas with colleagues. The activity that people found most useful was simply having a time which they could set aside for writing.
There were a couple of requests for lists of blogs to use as inspiration. Yes, this can be done. We’d also like your help with this. Please click on the following link to join the LEaD Writing Group on Yammer! There we can share links to blogs that we like. It will also allow you to keep up with news from the group.
The main things that needed improvement revolved around organisation. Having more notice of when the group was meeting emerged as an issue. In addition, there was a request for calendar invites to be sent out in advance so that people could reserve slots in their diaries.
Below are the upcoming dates for the LEaD Writing Group:
- Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd February
- Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd March
- Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th April
- Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th May
The sessions run from 13:00 to 14:00 in the LEaD Training Room, B310, which is on the 3rd floor of the University Building, above the Student Centre.
I have also sent out calendar invites to everyone on our mailing list. If you would like to join our mailing list, please send an email to – daniel.sansome@city.ac.uk
